Marc Durán and Natalya Prosvirnina clinch titles at the 78th Spanish Table Tennis Championships in Jaén

Jaén, March 22, 2023 - The 78th Spanish Table Tennis Championships came to an exciting conclusion at the Olivo Arena Sports Palace in Jaén, with Marc Durán and Natalya Prosvirnina securing their respective titles in the men's and women's singles competitions. The event, held between March 20 and 22, was attended by 1016 participants and drew significant attention from fans nationwide, thanks to the live broadcast on Teledeporte.

Catalan player Marc Durán claimed his third individual title (2015, 2022, and 2023) after defeating Carlos Franco 4-1 in the men's singles final. Durán's victory also marked a successful title defense, having won last year's championships in Santander.

On the women's side, 43-year-old Natalya Prosvirnina earned her first-ever Spanish Championship title, representing Hujase Jaén Paraíso Interior. In the women's singles final, she overcame defending champion Sofía-Xuan Zhang 4-1, showcasing a consistently strong defensive game.

Durán and Franco's journey to the final included thrilling semi-final matches, with Durán defeating Alberto Lillo 4-3 and Franco besting eleven-time Spanish champion Carlos Machado 4-2. The doubles competition saw Carlos Franco and Miguel Ángel Vilchez secure their second title as a pair, after their victory in Granada in 2020, by defeating De Las Heras/Ayuso 3-2 in the final.

María Xiao and Jesús Cantero successfully defended their mixed doubles title, beating young University of Burgos players María Berzosa and Daniel Berzosa 3-1 in the final. Meanwhile, the women's doubles competition saw Eugenia Sastre and Ainhoa Cristóbal from Son Cladera revalidating their championship, winning against Elvira Rad and Jana Riera 3-1.

The closing ceremony featured a dazzling light show and was attended by Francisco Reyes, President of the Diputación of Jaén; Ana Belén Jurado, Manager of the Jaén City Council Sports Board; Ángel Vera, Jaén Provincial Council's Sports Deputy; and Miguel Ángel Machado, President of the Royal Spanish Table Tennis Federation.
